Nomination Form

The Nominating Committee would like for you to nominate persons to serve as officers for St. James Presbyterian Church.  While nominations do not assure that a person will serve, the voice of the body is essential to our discernment. 

Offices open for Nomination

The Office of Deacon
              It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith. They shall assume such other duties as may be delegated to them from time to time by the session, such as leading the people in worship through prayers of intercession, reading the Scriptures, presenting the gifts of the people, and assisting with the Lord’s Supper. Serves a term of 3 years.
The Office of Ruling Elder
              Ruling elders, together with ministers of the Word and Sacrament, exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment, discipline, and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation as well as the whole church, including ecumenical relation- ships. When elected by the congregation, they shall serve faithfully as members of the session. When elected as commissioners to higher councils, ruling elders participate and vote with the same authority as ministers of the Word and Sacrament, and they are eligible for any office.  Serves a term of 3 years.
The Office of Trustee
              Trustees are responsible for establish maintenance requirements for the buildings, grounds and vehicles, of the church and implementing those requirements with funds budgeted by Session.  Trustees recommend policies on building use, implement security required to protect building and contents, review insurance coverage on yearly basis, review the premises on yearly basis for safety issues and implement improvements where needed, and purchase necessary paper supplies for bathrooms and cleaning supplies for sexton.
Nominating Committee
              As the Nominating Committee, members will be expected to participate and provide a necessary forum for thorough, open, and confidential discussion.  All members will be expected to explore the nature of each office and the candidate’s qualifications. Members will study the total  situation and bring a unified approach to the congregation’s search for officers, committed to mandatory weekly meeting(s), committed to Bible Study, reverence for the Lord  and have a discerning spirit.  Serve no more than 3 years consecutively.
Personnel Committee
              The members of the Personnel Committee will be required to provide confidential support to the Pastor/Head of Staff and the staff in accordance with the Book of Order, handle personnel needs or issues of the church, review and/or develop job descriptions, make sure that personnel policies and handbook are up to date, review employment applications or resumes for open positions, and available for impromptu meetings.  Serves a term of 2 years.
