The Service Ministry 

Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

The Mission of the Service Ministry is to guide the congregation in serving the community and one another through ministries of compassion and care.  Through the Service Ministry, St. James various missions including

Through the generosity of the congregation St. James supports the following local mission organizations

  • UNCF
  • James Island Outreach
  • YWCA-YMCA
  • James Island Interfaith
  • NAACP 
  • The Westchester Youth Programs,
  • Operation Cool Breeze, and 180 Place.

Through the Presbyterian Church USA, St. James provides support by taking up several offering at appointed times of the year.  These offerings include

The Pentecost Offering  

A gift to the Pentecost Offering helps the church encourage, develop, and support its young people, and also address the needs of at-risk children. 40% of the Pentecost offering can be retained by individual congregations wanting to make an impact in the lives of young people within their own community. The remaining 60% is used to support ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency:

Peace Offering

A gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering enables the church to promote the Peace of Christ by addressing systems of injustice across the world. Individual congregations are encouraged to utilize up to 25% of this Offering to connect with the global witness of Christ's peace. Mid councils retain an additional 25% for ministries of peace and reconciliation. The remaining 50% is used by the Presbyterian Mission Agency to advocate for peace and justice in cultures of violence, including our own, through collaborative projects of education and Christian witness.

Christmas Joy Gift

Each year during the Advent and Christmas season, we turn our eyes to Bethlehem and celebrate the wondrous gift of Jesus Christ, our Savior. By giving to the Christmas Joy Offering, you honor this gift by providing assistance to current and retired church workers in their time of need and developing our future leaders at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges equipping communities of color.

Souper Bowl of Caring

Using the energy of the Super Bowl to mobilize youth in a united national effort to care for people in their local communities who are hungry and those in need.

Through the time and talents of our membership, St. James offers support to the James Island Community through the following programs:

  • On Sight Food pantry,
  • Community Builders Program,
  • Voter Registration Drive,
  • A+ Mentoring Program for Young Men
