The Discipleship Ministry 

"And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ..."

The Mission of the Discipleship ministry is to help believers grow in their faith by sharing the truth of God's Word.  Ministries of Discipleship at St. James include
Board of Deacons
Each year the congregation elects and ordains Deacons who are called to ministries of compassion and service.   Deacons at St. James serves 3 year terms and are nominated by the congregation.
Christians on the Rise
Christians on the Rise is our ministry to young adults and their families.  They meet monthly for bible study, mutual support, sharing, and fun.
Life Development Institute
For persons called to deeper study on particular topics, Life Development Institute (LID) provides a rotation of classes throughout the year!
Sunday School
Every Sunday morning adults gather to study the International Sunday School Lesson.  Sunday School begins immediately at 9:45 A.M.   
Church Nursery
The Church Nursery gives parents of children ages infant to 6 an opportunity to worship while providing their children with a fun and safe environment.  ALL nursery staff have receive Darkness to Light training to insure that they are aware of the do's and don'ts of caring for children.   
Summer Bible Camp
During the month of June, St. James offers a free one week Bible Camp for all youth ages 5-12 years old.  Volunteers work with youth focusing on Christian character and bible knowledge.  
Spring and Fall Leadership Training
During the spring and fall of every year all members of the church are invited to attend leadership training.  During this training, ministries are evaluated, ideas are shared, and best practices of leadership are taught by staff and area experts.  The content of the training is designed to help develop leaders for the church and secular world.    
Scholarship Ministry
Each year St. James gives out over $7,000.00 in scholarships to church youth who are matriculating through college.  
Transportation Ministry
The Transportation Ministry provides transportation to and from church as well as to other events related to the church.  
Manna Bookstore
The Manna Bookstore carries books, CD's, and other materials that assist in growing the faith of the believer.  Stop in and pick up a book!
Ministers in Training
For those discerning a call to ministry, the Ministers in Training Program (MIT) takes you deeper into the life and work of a Christian minister.   This program is open to all men and women (not just members of St. James) who want to explore a calling to Christian Ministry.  
National Black Presbyterian Caucus
The Mission of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus is to serve Jesus Christ, and enrich the black Presbyterian congregations and their communities.  We are committed to congregational enhancement, advocacy, social and racial justice; and challenging the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) when it fails to take seriously the needs of the poor, oppressed, and disenfranchised.  The Charleston chapter meets quarterly and St. James is an active member.
